Straining Fences
Straining a fence is not an Olympic sport. You don't have to prove how strong you are by taking the wire strain to just before breaking point.
With today's gripple fasteners, you can always go back and restrain wires when they stretch over time.
I know a bloke who hasn't used a wire strainer since he got his gripple tool. He reckons it's quicker, safer and it's easier to climb through a fence if there is a bit of give. Also if a tree falls on a fence that is slightly understrained, chances are the wires won't break and the repair job is much simpler.
Whether you use the traditional wire strainer or a gripple tool to strain your fences, just remember it's not a competition to see which will break first - you or the wire!
