How to be a Lavender Farmer

What is it that makes lavender growing so attractive to small farmers?

Is it the perfume of the plants? Or is it the fact that you can reap your first harvest in a relatively short time? Or is it because of its close association with the tourism industry?

It's probably a little of all those reasons and perhaps many more. And, as Dianne Decorte from Mt Wayo Lavender says with lavender, even if all goes wrong and you can't make it a commercial success, you've still got a great garden.

This month on Farm Radio, presenter Chris Brown investigates the fascination we harbour for the lavender industry.
